Ok, guys. I’m sorry, but I really have to get this off my chest.
I think I’ve realized what the worst fandom is.
These people in my class every morning, complaining about what happened last night in this and that.
Grown men get into fights about it, and children/teens hate each other because of it. They all turn completely elitist about their respective opinions.
It’s all over TV, bumper stickers, restaurants, shirts, books, trading cards…
And wanna talk about female oppression or sexism in general? You’ve got it, right here.
Hell, they spend entire weekends getting drunk over it.
The fans spend thousands of dollars each year on events, memorabilia, betting, and stupid crap like bobbleheads.
It’s plastered with shameless advertising.
And in some countries, there are gangs around this.
The stupidest part is that most of them don’t even get involved in it. They don’t have a huge creative base with shitloads of artists and fanfic writers like some other fandoms have. They just sit there and say “we” as if they’re part of the action.
The worst fandom?
Sports.

…I appreciate the sentiment, but sports are cool and there’s tons of people who get drunk over anime or w/e and it’s not true that the majority of people in fandoms do art or shit - just the people on tumblr. And just saying you have to “do something” to be in a fandom is sort of… elitist, too. Can’t people be in a fandom just cus they like the thing? Doesn’t that describe most fans of something?
I’m shit at sports anyways, but I enjoy watching them just like tons of people enjoy watching anime or reading webcomics or playing games and just doing that.And shit, if you wanna talk stupid crap that people buy… have you ever been to a comic convention?
I dunno - I just think this post ignores that every single one of those things could apply to pretty much every fandom. The sexism thing holds water, yeah - but sports are cool and people who like sports can be cool.
